8 things to do during the summer to prepare your for back to school/college – Pumpkins and Planners

Hey,

So, we’ve officially hit August.  This means two things. Firstly, it’s my blogs three year anniversary!  Secondly, it’s summer break.  For many, the thought of September and school/college starting again is just too much.  Textbooks, pens, classes – ugh!   Let me let you into a little secret though – you can make the transition back to school/college easier on yourself!  Unfortunately, that means doing a few things now though.

  1. Empty out your bag!                                                                                                                                                     I know your bag is still laying in the deepest, darkest crevice of your room – you probably haven’t touched it since your last day of school!  Empty it out.  Decide if you need a new one for this school year.  Get rid of mouldy bananas.  Only put back in the stuff you’ll actually need.  It will make you feel so much more organised, I promise!

  2. Make a list.                                                                                                                                                                                         I understand it’s the holidays and the last thing you want to be doing is picking up a pen and paper and making list, however, this one will really be of benefit to you!  So hopefully that will justify it!?  Make a list after you’ve gone through your bag or rucksack and write down anything and everything that you need to buy.  This might be pencils, notebooks, rubbers, USB plugs or even a new bag!  Write it down and take it with you when you go shopping – then you won’t forget anything!

  3. Clean your gadgets!                                                                                                                                                                     I hadn’t thought of doing this until recently, but then I realised just how dirty my laptop case had gotten from being dragged around college everyday of the week!  It’s easy enough to remember to clean the screens – but don’t forget the case and keyboard!  You’ll be surprised how filthy it is!

  4. Sort out your wardrobe/closet.                                                                                                                                                   I don’t know about you, but over the course of the academic year I wear my clothes over and over and over and over again.  With all that washing and wearing and washing again, clothes tend to become pretty battered and your wardrobe soon becomes a bomb site! Take the time to go through it, put things back in their place and kick out anything thats seen better days.  You could always donate good used clothes to charity shops or thrift stores!  This makes room for your new clothes shopping too!

  5. Wash your makeup brushes!                                                                                                                                                      I can definitely be accused of not doing this enough.   So I figure while your on holiday just get it done and then its done for a few weeks.

  6. Clear out old textbooks or homework.                                                                                                                       Depending on what your studying, you may have completed your course by the summer holidays.  If so, clear out the bits of paper you don’t need from it – store the bits you do neatly.  Doing this will mean once the school year starts again, you won’t be confusing last years work with this years!

  7. Declutter your room.                                                                                                                                                  This one is fairly self explanatory.  If you have loads of stuff, you’re not going to be able to study as well.  Clear out, go through your junk drawer and just declutter.  Trust me, you won’t miss the things you had stuffed away in the back of your drawers when you’ve got your qualification or you’ve finished school!

  8. Do some things for you!                                                                                                                                                                Of course getting your room sorted out for back to school/college is important, but it’s even more important that your brain and body is ready!  Make sure you do some things for you.  Read that book you haven’t had time for all year, paint your nails, wear your favourite t-shirt, have a bath, listen to your favourite song, see your friends.  Make time for you!

Do you think I’ve mentioned everything on this post? Is there anything else I’ve forgotten?  Let me know below!

Happy school Holidays!
